The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 retention deadline is fast approaching, and all 10 franchises must submit their retained player lists by November 17. The auction is scheduled for December 16, and speculation about potential player trades is already gaining momentum.
Mumbai Indians (MI) have found themselves at the centre of several trade rumours, with captain Hardik Pandya reportedly attracting interest from Punjab Kings. Amid the developments, another Mumbai star, Suryakumar Yadav, has also been linked with a possible move away from the franchise.
Suryakumar Yadav shares interesting Instagram story amid IPL 2027 rumours
According to a report by India Today, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have shown interest in acquiring Suryakumar’s services ahead of the IPL 2027 season. However, the batter has now seemingly addressed the speculation through an Instagram story. Suryakumar shared a video of himself training, with the Mumbai Indians emblem appearing multiple times in the post.
The timing of the story caught the attention of fans, who interpreted it as a hint that he remains committed to the five-time IPL champions. Moreover, Mumbai Indians have reportedly made it clear that they are not willing to trade the star batter. Suryakumar has been an important part of the franchise and remains one of their key players heading into the next season.

Hardik Pandya’s potential move to Punjab Kings grabs attention
While Suryakumar’s future has become a talking point, Pandya’s potential departure has emerged as one of the biggest trade stories ahead of the retention deadline. According to a PTI report, Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings are in advanced talks over a possible trade involving Hardik and Arshdeep Singh. An IPL source told the news agency that both franchises are keen to make the deal happen, although it is not finalised yet.
Hardik returned to Mumbai Indians in 2024 and replaced Rohit Sharma as captain. However, the franchise has failed to qualify for the playoffs twice in the three seasons since his appointment. Rohit is also expected to regain the captaincy for the 2027 edition. Punjab Kings, meanwhile, would have to part ways with Arshdeep, who has been closely associated with the franchise and is currently India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is. The developments have made Mumbai Indians one of the teams to watch ahead of the November 17 retention deadline.
