CSK plot mega trade for England all-rounder from SRH ahead of IPL 2027 retention deadline

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are reportedly exploring a major trade with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as franchises prepare for the IPL 2027 auction. The five-time champions have shown interest in acquiring an England all-rounder who endured a disappointing campaign in the previous edition of the tournament.

With the IPL 2027 retention deadline approaching on November 17, trade discussions are gathering momentum across the league. Several franchises are assessing their squad combinations, and the proposed move could become one of the significant developments before the mini-auction in Goa on December 16.

CSK eye England all-rounder ahead of IPL 2027 retention deadline

The player attracting Chennai’s interest is England all-rounder Liam Livingstone. The 33-year-old joined SRH for ₹13 crore at the IPL 2026 auction after being released by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Livingstone’s first season with the Kavya Maran-owned franchise, however, did not unfold as expected. He featured in only two matches and managed 15 runs before losing his place in the team’s playing combination. Given the significant investment made in him, his limited involvement has raised questions about his future with the Hyderabad franchise.

CSK are reportedly among the teams interested in bringing the powerful batter to Chennai. Another franchise from northern India has also shown interest, creating the possibility of competition for his services.

Khaleel Ahmed could be part of the proposed trade

Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed has emerged as one of the players reportedly discussed in connection with the potential exchange. Chennai could consider offering the Indian fast bowler to Hyderabad as part of a deal for Livingstone.

Reports suggest that discussions extend beyond a simple one-for-one swap, with another CSK player and multiple franchises potentially involved.

A source quoted in reports about the negotiations said, “The franchises are certainly discussing Livingstone and another player apart from Khaleel in CSK. Multiple players and multiple franchises are involved in the trade discussions, not just two, and nothing has been finalised.”

The statement underlines the uncertainty surrounding the negotiations. Even though CSK have reportedly expressed interest, the proposed exchange could change considerably before the retention deadline.
