Social Media Reacts To Spurs Europa League Win: Tottenham Hotspur defeated Manchester United 1-0 in the final of the UEFA Europa League 1-0 in the battle of the Premier League bottom feeders. Social media has some interesting reactions to the Spurs’ win.
The final, which was played in the San Mamés Stadium in Bilbao, Spain, saw two teams that are having a horrific season domestically compete in a European final. Tottenham is currently 17th on the Premier League table with 35 points. While they are safe from relegation, being just one place above the drop for such a massive club is beyond embarrassing.
United aren’t doing much better in the PL, currently standing in 16th place on the table with 39 points. This is the worst season in the history of this historic club since the start of the Premier League era.
Despite tragic domestic campaigns, these two teams had a fine run in the UEFA Europa League this season. United were even on a 16-match unbeaten run in this competition. But these two English giants now stood against one another to salvage something out of this otherwise dreadful season.
In a match that saw the Red Devils dominate possession, passing, and shots on target, it was the Spurs who eked out a 1-0 victory, with Brennan Johnson scoring the only goal of the game in the 42nd minute with what was his team’s only shot at target throughout the match.

Naturally, social media has reacted to this final. It was Tottenham Hotspur’s first trophy since winning the League Cup (EFL Cup) in 2008. Throughout the 2010s, when the London-based side was one of the best teams in the country, they did not manage to win a single trophy. The Spurs fans now celebrated winning a European title despite having a poor season domestically.
There were fans who dunked on Manchester United for “letting Spurs win a trophy” and those who took shots at Tottenham’s cross-town rivals, Arsenal, who have been one of the best clubs in Europe for the past three seasons but have no trophy to show for it.
But the man who was trending the most after the final was Heung-min Son, the Spurs’ captain who won his first major trophy with the club.
Finally, personalities from across the football world reacted to this final as well, including Liverpool icon Mo Salah, who reacted to the famous words of Spurs’ current manager Ange Postecoglou, who claimed that he always wins trophies in his second year at any club.
Former Tottenham player and captain Harry Kane, who won his first major career trophy earlier this season by winning the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich, congratulated his former club on social media as well.
Tottenham Hotspur will now play in the UEFA Champions League next season despite finishing 17th in the Premier League.
