The buildup to the series-deciding ODI of the India vs England three-ODI series was surrounded largely around Rohit Sharma and the rumors and reports of a potential retirement that emerged during the 2nd ODI.
However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia quashed all those rumors, and the attention is now back on the play as India and England take the field for an important game on Sunday at Lord’s.
India’s tour of the UK 2026 has mostly been dim, having lost six T20Is against Ireland and England and then failed to seal the ODI series in Cardiff after winning at Edgbaston.
India’s hand has been restricted today due to injuries. First, Washington Sundar was ruled out of the 3rd ODI due to a leg injury. Harsh Dubey was added to the squad as Sundar’s replacement. And then, India’s spearhead fast bowler is unavailable, making India’s bowling attack weaker.
IND vs ENG 3rd ODI Toss report:
Harry Brook won the toss at Lord’s, making it three out of three toss wins for the England skipper in this series. Brook elected to bat first.
IND vs ENG: Why Is Jasprit Bumrah Not Playing Today In 3rd ODI At Lord’s?
Shubman Gill said at the toss that Jasprit Bumrah is down with a knee injury, and hence the fast bowler is not playing today in the 3rd ODI at Lord’s.
Bumrah registered figures of 1/31 in Birmingham and 1/45 in Cardiff, where he dismissed Ben Duckett with the first ball of England’s innings after scoring 20* crucial runs with the bat. But it all went in vain as Joe Root’s 99* powered England over the finish line.
IND vs ENG: India make 3 changes for the 3rd ODI at Lord’s
For the Lord’s ODI, India made three changes to their playing XI from the side that lost the 2nd ODI. KL Rahul, Prince Yadav, and Arshdeep Singh replaced Sundar, Bumrah, and Shivam Dube. Sundar and Bumrah are injured.
Rahul missed the 2nd ODI due to illness and is back today. This means that both Rahul and Kishan feature in the same lineup.
India opted to bring in a pacer instead of Kuldeep Yadav, who has now missed 13 of India’s last 14 matches across formats.
The selection of both Prince and Arshdeep means that India don’t have the batting depth till No. 8. Axar Patel is the only all-rounder in the side, whereas India had three all-rounders in the previous match.
England, meanwhile, made one change to their lineup: Josh Tongue, who was rested from the 2nd ODI, returns for the series decider, replacing Saqib Mahmood.
