The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League is the first franchise cricket league in the state of Punjab, India. Like several state franchise T20 competitions in India, the Sher-e-Punjab League is organised by the state’s cricket governing body, the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA).
The competition started all the way back in 2023. And after two completed seasons, the league took a one-year break in 2025.
Now, the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League 2026 is the start of a new era in this competition. Not only will there be entirely new teams playing this year, but all the players in the tournament will be from Punjab. The purpose of the league is to develop new Punjabi talent, and this will be achieved by using only homegrown players across all teams.
How Many Teams Play In The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League 2026?
While like the previous seasons, there will be six teams in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League 2026; all six teams this time around will be city-branded, and the entirely homegrown talent pool will be backed by an auction, not unlike the IPL.
Each team will have a squad of 16-20 and will compete in eight games in the tournament phase. They will have a budget of Rs. 45 lakh to build their squad. Each team will also have at least two icon players, with a base prize of Rs. 1.5 lakh each, and a marquee player who has played for the Indian Cricket Team, priced at Rs. 10 lakh. The six teams in the competition are as follows.
Amritsar Soormas will represent the holy city of Amritsar. Their marquee player will be hometown boy and former No. 1-ranked T20I player in the world, Abhishek Sharma. As for their other big signing, they secured another hometown star, Naman Dhir, for Rs 10.80 lakh in the auction.
Next up is the Bathinda Royals, the team representing the ancient city of Bathinda. Their marquee player is quite new to the national team, pace bowler Gurnoor Brar. Their big signings in the auction were former U-19 batter Harnoor Singh and pacer Ashwani Kumar. The latter impressed in the IPL. Both of them were bought for Rs. 7 lakh each.
Fazilka Falcons is next. The team represents the district of Fazilka, a border town mere 10 km away from the Pakistan border. Their marquee player is yet another hometown boy. The captain of the Indian ODI and Test team, Shubman Gill. Their big signing in the auction was 29-year-old all-rounder Sanvir Singh from Ludhiana, bought for Rs 13.20 lakh.
The Jalandhar Warriors, as the name suggests, will be representing Jalandhar, a city known for being a hub for sports equipment manufacturing in India. Their marquee player this season is not a hometown player. Instead, Prabhsimran Singh from Patiala will lead the team. This team did not splurge a large portion of their budget on one player. Their biggest signing in the auction was 25-year-old bowling all-rounder Sukhdeep Bajwa for Rs. 6 lakhs.
The Ludhiana Lions will represent the industrial city of Ludhiana. Their marquee player this season will be Indian national team pacer Arshdeep Singh, a native of Mohali. This team did not make a massive signing in the auction. Instead, they focused on building a strong pace attack around Arshdeep.
Lastly, the Mohali Kings, representing Punjab’s capital of Mohali. This city already hosts an IPL team, the Punjab Kings and has a deep sporting culture. Their marquee player this season is all-rounder Ramandeep Singh, who has played several T20Is for the national team. Their key signing in the auction was batter Anmolpreet Singh for Rs. 8.20 lakh.
