IPL 2026 [WATCH]: Dhruv Jurel pulls off a gravity-defying diving stunner to dismiss Mayank Yadav in LSG vs RR clash

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season witnessed a masterclass in athleticism and tactical bowling during the 32nd match at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. On a sultry evening in Lucknow on Wednesday, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) defended a modest total with clinical precision, but the highlight of the night wasn’t a towering six or a searing yorker. Instead, it was a moment of pure magic behind the stumps by Dhruv Jurel that left the Lucknow crowd in stunned silence.

The clash, billed as a battle of tactical supremacy, saw RR secure a commanding 40-run victory, moving them further up the table while leaving the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) searching for answers after a dismal batting collapse.

Flying Dhruv Jurel takes a breathtaking catch to remove Mayank Yadav in LSG vs RR encounter

In a game filled with highlights, the definitive image of the match arrived in the 18th over. LSG were already reeling at 119/8, with the result all but a formality, but Jofra Archer was in no mood to relax. Bowling the third delivery of his final over (17.3), Archer delivered a searing length ball just outside off-stump.

LSG’s Mayank Yadav attempted a flat-footed push, only to manage a thick outside edge that seemed destined to fly through the vacant slip cordon. What followed was a display of elite reflexes and sheer hang-time. Jurel, moving with the grace of a gymnast, launched himself horizontally to his right. Defying gravity, Jurel extended his right hand to pluck the ball out of thin air, completing a one-handed ‘specky’ while being almost fully parallel to the turf.

The replay showed the ball was well past him when he secured the catch, cementing his reputation as one of the finest gloveman in modern cricket. The dismissal of Mayank for 5 runs essentially broke the spirit of the LSG tail, leaving them 9 wickets down and staring at an inevitable defeat.

While Jurel’s catch provided the wow factor, the foundation of the Rajasthan Royals’ victory was laid by a gritty batting performance and a disciplined bowling effort. Choosing to bat first, RR struggled against a disciplined LSG attack led by Mohsin Khan (2/17) and Mohammed Shami (3/30). RR found themselves in deep trouble at 32/3 within the Powerplay.

However, veteran Ravindra Jadeja proved his worth yet again. Coming in when the team was stuttering, Jadeja played a mature knock of 43 off 29 balls, punctuated by six boundaries. His partnership with Impact Player Shubham Dubey (19 off 11) helped RR reach a competitive 159/6 on a tricky Lucknow surface.

In response, the LSG chase never gained momentum. The Rajasthan pace duo of Jofra Archer (3/20) and Nandre Burger (2/27) tore through the top order, dismissing heavyweights like Rishabh Pant and Aiden Markram for ducks. Despite a lone resistance from Mitchell Marsh, who scored a fighting 55 off 41 balls, LSG collapsed like a house of cards.

From 91/4, they lost their final six wickets for just 28 runs, eventually being bundled out for 119 in 18 overs. Jadeja’s all-round brilliance (43* and 1/29) rightfully earned him the Player of the Match award, as RR proved that even in the high-scoring era of the IPL, a total of 159 can be a mountain if defended with passion and elite fielding.
