Jeff Hardy is an American professional wrestler. He currently wrestles for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), where he is one-half of the TNA World Tag Team Champions in his fourth reign. He also appears in WWE on the NXT brand, where he is a former NXT Tag Team Champion, and has competed in All Elite Wrestling (AEW).
In his singles career, Hardy has won six world championships. He captured the WWE Championship in 2008, held WWE’s World Heavyweight Championship twice, and won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship three times. He also won the Intercontinental Championship five times, the Hardcore Championship three times, and the European, Light Heavyweight, and United States Championships once each.
These accomplishments made him WWE’s 18th Triple Crown Champion and 9th Grand Slam Champion, and one of only five men to complete both Grand Slam formats. Hardy has headlined many major WWE and TNA events, including TNA’s top show, Bound for Glory, twice. He was voted “Most Popular Wrestler of the Year” twice by readers of Pro Wrestling Illustrated.
A Detailed Look at Jeff Hardy’s World Championship Wins
Jeff Hardy won his first WWE Championship in 2008 after being drafted to SmackDown. He had been chasing the title, which was switching between Edge and Triple H, and finally got his chance at Armageddon in a triple-threat match against both. Hardy hit a Swanton Bomb to win the championship, marking his first WWE Title win.
His reign lasted 42 days. He never had a successful televised defense and lost the title to Edge at the Royal Rumble. Matt Hardy was involved in costing Jeff the championship, ending his first and only WWE Title reign.
His most famous win was when he won the World Heavyweight Championship at Extreme Rules 2009 in a ladder match against Edge. This was after a long rivalry and a four-way elimination match that gave him the shot. Hardy became the number one contender by winning a fatal four-way elimination match on SmackDown. He faced Edge at Judgment Day on May 17 but lost after Matt Hardy interfered.
Hardy then defeated Edge in a non-title match and chose a ladder match at Extreme Rules on June 7, where he won his first World Heavyweight Championship. His first reign ended quickly when CM Punk cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase.
At Night of Champions on July 26, Hardy defeated Punk to win his second and last World Heavyweight Championship. He successfully defended the title against John Morrison, but Punk attacked him multiple times, leading to a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match at SummerSlam on August 23. His run with the title ended after losing a “loser leaves WWE” match to Punk. As a result, he healed from restless legs syndrome, two herniated discs, and a neck injury.
