South Africa registered the sixth-highest successful run chase in ODI cricket history, and the third-highest of their own, to level the three-match IND vs SA ODI series 1-1 in Raipur with a game to go.
This marked a second consecutive high-scoring match in this series. Three days ago, Corbin Bosch failed to seal the chase of 350 in Ranchi, being the last man to get out in the last over as the Proteas lost by 17 runs.
However, on Wednesday, on a batting beauty in Raipur, aided by plenty of dew, Bosch hit the winning runs, also in the last over of the chase as South Africa romped home by four wickets.
While India’s innings was headlined by clinical centuries from Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad and a powerful half-century from KL Rahul, it also included scratchy knocks from Yashasvi Jaiswal (22 off 38) and Ravindra Jadeja (24* off 27) that would now come under the scanner.
The Proteas’ chase was spearheaded by Aiden Markram’s hundred. After Markram fell at the 30-over mark, the Proteas surged through sparkling half-centuries from Matthew Breetzke (68 off 64) and Dewald Brevis (54 off 34). The two young right-handers put up a thunderous partnership of 92 (64) that brought the required rate to around six runs an over.
Bosch had his redemption with a cameo of 29* off 15, as the series is now set up for a blockbuster decider on Saturday.
