Will Mitchell Starc Return To Play In IPL 2025: The IPL 2025 is set to resume on May 17 after a halt of one week. On May 9, the tournament was suspended due to the cross-border tension soaring between India and Pakistan, with both nations firing missiles and ammunition into each other’s territory.
On May 8, the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala was suspended after 10.1 overs for the same reason, and the next day, the BCCI announced a suspension of a week for the tournament.
Now the tournament will resume on Saturday, May 17, and has been extended until June 3, which is more than a week later than the originally scheduled date of the final, May 25. With the IPL final now slated for June 3, some teams will miss some of their overseas players as the IPL will clash with the West Indies vs England ODI series and the preparations of the South African and Australian players for the ICC WTC Final.
Some players, such as Jos Buttler, Jacob Bethell, and Will Jacks, will return to India to play in the league stage for their teams but will not be available for the playoffs, as England will host the West Indies in an ODI series from May 29.
The same will apply for the eight South African players who are part of the IPL and also picked in the squad for the ICC WTC Final.
Further, someone like Mitchell Starc won’t be available at all for Delhi Capitals, even for the league stage.
Will Mitchell Starc Return To Play In IPL 2025 For Delhi Capitals?
No, Mitchell Starc has pulled out of the rest of the IPL 2025 and will not return to play. According to news agency AAP, “Starc has told the franchise that he wouldn’t be finishing the league.”
This is a huge blow to DC, who are fifth in the points table with six wins in 11 games. DC have 13 points and are alive in the playoffs race. Starc, who was purchased by DC for INR 11.75 crore, is Delhi’s highest wicket-taker so far this season with 14 wickets in 11 matches at 26.
Starc was part of the abandoned PBKS vs DC match, and it is believed that his experience that evening and in the days preceding that—where the players and their families had to travel by bus and train to reach Delhi safely—has shaken him. Along with Starc, his compatriot and DC opener Jake Fraser-McGurk has also pulled out of the remainder of the competition.
DC have signed Bangladesh seamer Mustafizur Rahman as Fraser-McGurk’s replacement. They are yet to announce Starc’s replacement.
While Faf du Plessis is expected to return and be available for the entirety of the season, Tristan Stubbs will be available until the end of the league stage and not for the playoffs, as he is part of South Africa’s WTC final squad.
