Which Teams Have Qualified for T20 World Cup 2026: Italy are set to make their maiden appearance at a men’s cricket world event after securing their berth at the men’s ICC T20 World Cup 2026 following the completion of the T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier on Friday in the Netherlands.
The men’s ICC T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier was played from July 5 to 11 at The Hague in the Netherlands between five teams. The Netherlands finished at the top of the points table, and Italy finished second; thus, both these teams will head to the Asian subcontinent next year for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which will be played in India and Sri Lanka in February-March (tentatively).
The Netherlands topped the points table with six points, taking three wins from four games. Two teams, Italy and Jersey, ended up with five points, but Italy finished in the second position ahead of the third-placed Jersey due to a superior net run rate.
Italy have never played in a senior men’s World Cup, be it ODI or T20, and next year will mark their maiden appearance at such an event.
Scotland, who have been part of the last four editions of the men’s T20 World Cup, will not feature next year after finishing fourth in the Europe Qualifier. In the last place were Guernsey.
The last day of the Europe Qualifier was filled with intrigue and excitement, as no team had sealed their place in the top two yet.
More thrill unfolded in the first game of the day as Jersey beat Scotland by only one wicket to keep their hopes alive.
In the second game of the day, the Netherlands beat Italy comfortably by 9 wickets, chasing down the target of 135 inside 17 overs. However, the loss for Italy still wasn’t big enough for their NRR to dip below Jersey’s, and hence, they stayed above Jersey on the points table.
Which Teams Have Qualified for T20 World Cup 2026:
Similar to the previous edition in 2024, there will be 20 teams at the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The format will also remain the same: 20 teams divided into four groups of five teams each, with the top two from each group qualifying for the Super 8. There, two groups will be formed of four teams each, with the top two progressing to the semi-finals.
India and Sri Lanka have qualified directly for the T20 World Cup 2026 by virtue of being the hosts. The top eight teams from the T20 World Cup 2024 have also earned their qualification for the 2026 event, and so have the next three best teams in the ICC T20I rankings.
The remaining spots will be filled by teams qualifying through regional qualifiers from Europe, Africa, Asia-EAP, and the Americas region.
So far, 15 teams have sealed their berth at the T20 World Cup 2026. They are India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, USA, West Indies, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, Canada, Netherlands, and Italy. (As of 11th July 2025.)
Two teams from the Africa Qualifier and three teams from the Asia-EAP Qualifier will be decided later in the year.
