When Will The Rescheduled IPL 2025 Take Place: With the border tensions between India and Pakistan increasing manifold over the last few days, the remainder of the IPL 2025 has been suspended.
With India fiercely retaliating for last month’s Pahalgam terrorist attacks, where over two dozen civilians were killed on 22 April, the cross-border tensions have soared to an extent that there were blackouts ordered in multiple cities of northern India on the night of May 8.
Match 58 of IPL 2025 between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was abandoned after 10.1 overs “due to a power outage caused by a significant technical failure.”
Then, with the airport in Dharamsala shut, the players, support staff, and other officials in the PBKS vs DC match travelled to Delhi by a special train organised by the BCCI on Friday morning.
On Friday morning, the BCCI held an urgent meeting. In the meeting, various options, including a possible change of venues, were reportedly pondered over. Eventually, the board decided to temporarily halt the season. It’s very likely now that the overseas players will return to their homes.
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal earlier stated, “We are reviewing the situation. It’s evolving, and we haven’t received any directive from the government yet. Any decision will be taken keeping all logistical considerations and the best interests of stakeholders in mind.”
Meanwhile, 58 matches, including the PBKS vs DC abandoned match, have concluded out of the 70 league matches. Then, the playoffs—Qualifier 1, Eliminator, and Qualifier 2—and the final will follow. Therefore, a total of 16 matches are still left in the IPL 2025.
IPL Suspended: When Will The Rescheduled IPL 2025 Take Place?
It is likely that the remainder of the IPL 2025 will take place in September, as India are currently not officially scheduled to play any matches in September. There have been talks of hosting the Asia Cup in T20 format in September, but the BCCI may demand a two-week window in September to complete the IPL 2025.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the border, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been moved to the UAE due to the attacks in Pakistan, including in Rawalpindi and Karachi. There are eight more matches left in the PSL. The PCB is yet to announce the revised schedule.
Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the decision was “to ensure the mental well-being of all players participating. Like in the past, we hope that our stakeholders will rally with us to further the best interests of the tournament, our players, and the fans. We are committed to ensuring that the league continues to thrive.”
