When Will Rishabh Pant Return From Injury?: Rishabh Pant suffered a nasty foot injury on Day 1 of the ongoing Test match against England. The question is, when will the Indian cricket team wicketkeeper return to action?
Yesterday was Day One of the fourth England vs India Test of the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The match is being played at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester. The home side won the toss and decided to bowl first.
During the third session of the day, the Men in Blue were looking in good shape. In the 67th over, the team was 212/3, with Pant and Sai Sudharsan standing firm on the crease. While the young batter was playing at 48 in 123 balls in only his second career Test, the wicketkeeper was batting a bit more rapidly, having scored 37 off 47.

On what would become Pant’s last ball of the day, Chris Woakes bowled a yorker, which Rishabh missed while playing a reverse-sweep, and the ball struck him directly on the right foot. England made an lbw appeal and even took DRS, but to no avail.
However, when the fans saw Rishabh Pant’s surroundings being filled up by the Indian support staff, everything started seeming a lot more serious. The camera managed to get a visual of Pant’s foot after he removed his shoe and sock, showing some nasty swelling at the point of impact. The 27-year-old had to be taken off the field with a mini-ambulance.
Naturally, he has been retired hurt, forcing Ravindra Jadeja to take the strike in his place. However, many hoped that the injury would be a minor one and that Pant would return to bat in the second inning of this match.

But that will not be the case. After being taken off the pitch, Rishabh was taken to get his foot scanned. The initial scans have shown a mild compound fracture in his right foot. The bleeding and selling into the injured areas forced Pant to get off the pitch on Wednesday.
The question is, how long will Rishabh Pant be out with the injury? The news is not good. Estimates indicate that he will be out with this injury for at least six weeks, effectively ruling him out for the remainder of this series.
With Pant being ruled out for the rest of the series, the major problems for India start in this match. While reserve wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel can keep the wickets while India bowls, he will not be able to bat according to ICC rules, which only allow a batting substitution for a concussion injury, which Pant has not suffered. This essentially means that the Indian Cricket Team will have to bat with 10 batters in the second inning of this crucial do-or-die match.
As for when we can expect Rishabh Pant to return to the national team. He will definitely miss the fifth and final Test of the series. So we can expect him to return during the Test series against the West Indies in October 2025.
The visitors ended Day One of the fourth England vs India Test match at 265/4 with Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur on strike. Sai Sudharsan was the team’s highest run scorer on the day with 61.
