The Indian cricket team have begun their ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a 29-run victory over the USA. This margin belies the manner of the triumph last Saturday at the Wankhede, as for the majority of India’s innings, the USA had the hosts on the ropes.
It took a magnificent knock by Suryakumar Yadav to drag India to a total of 161, of which the skipper alone scored 84 runs. The bowlers did their job clinically, even with Jasprit Bumrah absent due to illness, and restricted USA to 132.
India escaped a huge scare by Monank Patel’s team to earn their first two points in this competition, which also meant the Men in Blue extended their unbeaten run in the T20 World Cup; India won the trophy two years ago while being unbeaten throughout the tournament.
While the attention of the fans currently is on the high-voltage India vs Pakistan match, slated for February 15 in Colombo after the PCB made a U-turn on their boycott stance following meetings with the ICC, the Indian team is focused on their next opponent, Namibia.
IND vs NAM: When and where is the India vs Namibia T20 World Cup match?
India will meet Namibia in their Group A fixture on February 12, Thursday. This match will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
This is not the first time India will meet Namibia in the shortest format.
IND vs NAM: What Happened Last Time India Played Against Namibia In ICC T20 World Cup?
India have played against Namibia only once in T20I cricket. That clash took place during the T20 World Cup 2021 in Dubai. It was a group stage encounter that India won comfortably by nine wickets, with Ravindra Jadeja bagging the Man of the Match award for his bowling figures of 3/16.
That was the last match for Virat Kohli as India’s T20I skipper as India were knocked out in the group stage.
Kohli won the toss and elected to field first. India’s bowlers did an impressive job in halting Namibia at 132, with R Ashwin and Jadeja taking three wickets each and Jasprit Bumrah bagging a brace.
In the chase, openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma both hit half-centuries as India cantered towards their target in 15.2 overs with nine scalps in hand.
Unfortunately, that win didn’t mean much as India had already been eliminated from the semi-final race.
Will Jasprit Bumrah play against Namibia?
Bumrah missed the game against the USA due to illness and was earlier rested from the warm-up match against South Africa. Two days out from the match against Namibia, there hasn’t been an update yet on Bumrah’s availability.
