WATCH: Shardul Thakur’s slower ball masterclass dismisses Finn Allen in MI vs KKR IPL 2026 clash

A gripping moment lit up the IPL 2026 encounter between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Wankhede Stadium as Shardul Thakur delivered a game-changing breakthrough. Just when KKR looked set for a massive powerplay total, Thakur’s clever change of pace removed the dangerous Finn Allen, shifting momentum back in Mumbai’s favour.

KKR’s explosive start sets the tone

After being put in to bat by MI skipper Hardik Pandya, Kolkata Knight Riders came out all guns blazing. Led by Ajinkya Rahane, the opening pair of Rahane and Finn Allen took full advantage of the fielding restrictions.

Allen, known for his aggressive stroke play, looked particularly dangerous as he attacked MI’s bowlers from the outset. Rahane, at the other end, played the perfect supporting role, rotating strike and punishing loose deliveries. The duo stitched together a quickfire 69-run opening partnership, putting early pressure on the home side.

With boundaries flowing freely and MI struggling to find control, KKR appeared on course for a massive total.

Shardul Thakur dismisses Finn Allen with slower ball brilliance

Sensing the urgency of the situation, Pandya made a crucial bowling change in the sixth over, introducing Shardul into the attack. Known for his knack of picking wickets at critical junctures, Shardul didn’t take long to deliver.

On just his second delivery, he outfoxed Allen with a cleverly disguised slower ball. Bowled outside off, the delivery had less pace than expected, tempting Allen into a big shot.

Allen attempted an aggressive shovel towards the leg side but failed to generate enough power due to the lack of pace on the ball. The mistimed shot came off the inner half of the bat, looping towards long-on.

Positioned safely in the deep, Tilak Varma kept his composure and completed a straightforward catch, sending Allen back to the pavilion. The dismissal came at a crucial time, breaking a threatening partnership and giving MI a much-needed opening. The wicket not only halted KKR’s momentum but also injected fresh energy into the Mumbai Indians’ fielding unit.
