Twitter Reactions to India’s Heartbreaking Loss in the Lords Test

Similar to the first IND vs ENG Test in Leeds, India were left to rue their mistakes and slipped chances with both bat and ball during the first half of the match as they succumbed to a loss at Lord’s in the third Test of the five-match India vs England series.

England, who had lost at Edgbaston but bounced back at Lord’s, have now taken a 2-1 lead in the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy.

The match was at level after the first innings of both teams. But truly, England were ahead: the pitch that was good for batting and offered little help to the bowlers in the first three days, started to deteriorate on day 4, making any target over 150 challenging.

And it did as India found out while chasing 193. They lost four wickets on day 4 and the rest of the six on day 5. Day 5 started with India needing 135 runs, and that task turned into a mountain when they lost four wickets in the first session – those of Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Then came an unexpected partnership between Jadeja and Bumrah, the pair 35 runs in 132 balls to keep India’s hopes alive. However, Ben Stokes, who had earlier dismissed Rahul, broke the ninth-wicket stand with Bumrah’s wicket.

Jadeja and Siraj also gave a defiant rearguard of 80 balls, which was eventually ended by Bashir to hand India a 22-run defeat.

Earlier, in the India vs England 3rd Test, Joe Root and Rahul had scored centuries in their respective teams’ first innings, with Bumrah bagging a five-wicket haul as well. Washington Sundar took four wickets during England’s second innings, while Root once again top-scored for his side with 40.

Fans were left frustrated and exasperated as the loss, with many lamenting India’s failures earlier in the game. The bowlers conceded a half-century from Brydon Carse, while the turning point of the match arguably was Rishabh Pant’s run-out just before lunch on day 3, which meant India couldn’t take a decent lead.
