South Africa Squad For 2026 T20 WC: Notable Omission

South Africa Squad For 2026 T20 WC: South Africa has announced their 15-man squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup, to be played in India and Sri Lanka. The team looks deep and strong, with one notable exclusion.

The Proteas have never won a cricket World Cup. They did reach the final for the first time in the 2024 T20 World Cup, only to be defeated by India in a thrilling contest.

Seeing how the South African Cricket Team has been dominant across formats for the past couple of years, during which span they won the 2025 World Test Championship, this team looks quite similar to the one that finished as the runner-up in the last edition of this tournament.

Aiden Markram will lead this team once again. He has been the regular white-ball captain of the national team for the better part of three years. Markram is a reliable top-middle-order batter who also provides a few overs of off-spin and is a terrific fielder to boot.

The batting order of this squad is stacked. Led by the skipper, it also includes a healthy mix of young talent and veteran skill. Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi, and Jason Smith will be backed by the experienced duo of David Miller and Quinton de Kock.

Brevis is an explosive middle-order batter, and de Zorzi is a regular opener for the team. Smith adds depth to this batting order, Miller might be one of the most high-profile white-ball middle-order batters in the world, and de Kock will be the team’s primary wicketkeeper.

The batting order is also where the major exclusion from this team comes in, as Tristan Stubbs did not find a space in the 15-man squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup. While he has been excellent for the country and franchise, he did not fit the combination of this side for this tournament.

This team also has a deep pool of all-rounders, which includes Corbin Bosch, Donovan Ferreira, Marco Jansen, and George Linde. Jansen is a world-class tall pacer who is also a fine finisher with the bat. Linde is a spinning all-rounder, one of only two in this squad.

Corbin Bosch, in recent times, has shown that he is an asset to any team with the bat and his medium-pace bowling. Lastly, Donovan Ferreira is a rare breed of player in modern cricket, a four-skilled player. Apart from batting, spin-bowling, and fielding, he will also be this team’s backup wicketkeeper.

We now arrive at bowlers, and this list is quite impressive. Keshav Maharaj is the only frontline spinner in this squad. The bowling attack includes him and four pacers. Kagiso Rabada returns to the squad and will lead the fast bowlers’ attack.

Anrich Nortje is another pacy bowler with the ability to bowl at 150 kmph. Lungi Ngidi might be one of the most underrated pacers in world cricket, and finally, Kwena Maphaka is a young and quick pacer, finding his footing in international cricket.
