Gujarat Titans’ skipper Shubman Gill believes the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season could witness an unprecedented milestone—a team scoring 300 runs in an innings. Given the rapid evolution of the T20 format, Gill feels such a feat is well within reach.
“The pace of the game has reached a level where 300 seems possible. Last year, we came close on a few occasions. The Impact Player rule has added another dimension, making the IPL even more thrilling. One of the most exciting aspects of this tournament is that every day, a new player emerges as a star,” Gill told JioHotstar.
IPL 2024: A Season of Record-Breaking Batting Feats
Gill’s prediction isn’t far-fetched, considering the fireworks seen in the IPL 2024 season. Punjab Kings successfully chased down 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders, while Sunrisers Hyderabad shattered records with a massive 287/3 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. SRH also notched up the highest-ever powerplay score, 125/0, against Delhi Capitals.
“You constantly witness underrated talents delivering exceptional performances. The tournament’s structure, with frequent matches and travel, keeps players engaged. If you’re winning, momentum builds up—sometimes leading to three, four, or even five consecutive victories. But injuries can make things tricky,” the GT captain added.
Gujarat Titans’ Strategy for IPL 2025
As the 2022 IPL champions, Gujarat Titans are gearing up for another intense season, kicking off their campaign against Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Gill spoke about the team’s strengths and their approach to staying competitive in a long tournament.
“We have a strong fast-bowling unit. Rashid Khan has been a key asset, and our batting lineup features power-hitters like Rutherford, Philips, and Butler. Indian players like Mahipal and Sai add depth to our squad. In a long tournament like IPL, balance is the key to success,” he explained.
Gill also emphasized the importance of staying consistent despite occasional setbacks.
“Losing two or three matches in a row isn’t a big deal as long as you’re making the right decisions and playing the right way. Team selection and strategy should be based on logic and probability—this improves your chances of making it to the playoffs.”
