RR Wants Big Name CSK Players For Trading Samson: The talk around Sanju Samson’s IPL future is heating up as it now seems that his current franchise, Rajasthan Royals, has made a trade request, seeking a big-name player from the Chennai Super Kings for their current captain.
About a week ago, reports emerged that Samson, who has been the captain of the Royals for a few seasons now, had demanded that he be traded to five-time league champions CSK. While we are still about seven months away from the next season of the Indian Premier League, this report dropped as a bombshell upon those who watch and follow the sport.
While conflicting reports and rumours have come out since then. But the majority belief is that Samson has informed the RR management that he wants to leave the franchise he has played for over 10 seasons.

Anonymous sources have made claims that Sanju’s reason for wanting to go is that the management has not handled the team well over the past year, especially the way they let a T20 legend like Jos Buttler go. The Englishman played an integral role in the side’s recent success, winning the Orange Cap and being and giving the batting order stability.
And now, Cricbuzz has reported that the Jaipur-based franchise has accepted the reality of this trade happening and has demanded a big-name player from CSK in return. It is said that the inaugural IPL champions want either Super Kings legend Ravindra Jadeja or franchise captain Ruturaj Gaikwad as part of the trade that will see Sanju go the other way. Shivam Dube’s name has come in as well.
It is understood that RR lead owner Manoj Badale, often seen on the auction table for the Royals, is personally spearheading the trade deals with CSK. An agreement might be closer than expected.

However, the deal going through might be unlikely, as it seems that CSK are not willing to part with any of the mentioned names, as they have been a big part in the franchise’s recent success, as they won the league in 2023.
If the trade in its current form goes through, it will be one of the biggest deals in IPL history. Sanju Samson is by far the highest run scorer in the history of the Royals franchise, having scored 4219 runs in 155 matches. Not only that, but he has also represented the team in the most matches. He captained the team through its most successful period. From 2022 to 2024, RR reached the playoffs twice, barely missed out in 2023, and were among the best teams in the competition.
But a trade is the prerogative of the franchise. The Royals retained Sanju for Rs. 18 Crore ahead of IPL 2025. A retention of that magnitude not only signifies a player’s importance to the team for the coming season but also the role that management sees the player playing as part of their future.
And so, if RR does not want to trade their captain or does not get a fair trade deal for him, they can simply not follow through and keep him.
