Roger Binny Steps Down As BCCI President: Roger Binny has stepped down as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, with vice-president Rajeev Shukla assuming charge in an acting capacity. His departure comes less than a fortnight before the Asia Cup, and with the board scrambling to replace Dream11 as title sponsor.
An Apex Council meeting held on Wednesday under Shukla’s chairmanship focused on the sponsorship vacuum.
“We don’t even have two weeks left,” a board official told Dainik Jagran. “Floating a tender, completing legal processes, handling technicalities, it will take time. We are not considering a short-term sponsor only for the Asia Cup. The aim is a deal that runs through to the 2027 World Cup.”

Binny’s resignation arrives amid flux in Indian sporting administration. Although Parliament has passed the National Sports Governance Law, it has not yet been notified. The BCCI must therefore proceed with its Annual General Meeting and elections under the existing constitution, framed after the Supreme Court’s endorsement of the Lodha Committee’s reforms.

Under this framework, officials cannot serve beyond the age of 70, and both the BCCI and its state units are required to hold periodic elections. The Ministry of Sports has confirmed that until the new law takes effect, likely four to five months away, elections will continue under the old rules.
For now, Indian cricket’s most powerful body finds itself with an interim president, an expiring sponsorship, and another election cycle looming, even as the Asia Cup clock ticks down.
