Overseas Players Who Will Miss IPL Playoffs: The IPL 2025 will move into its last phase as playoffs will kick off on Thursday after the completion of the league stage, which spanned over two months, interrupted by an unforeseen one-week hiatus, and 70 matches.
While the four playoffs teams had been decided a few days ago, it was only in the last two matches that their positions and playoffs matches were finalised as the Punjab Kings (PBKS) beat the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) beat the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to seal their spots in Qualifier 1.
With MI losing to PBKS and the Gujarat Titans (GT) suffering defeats in their last two matches, these two teams were consigned to feature in the Eliminator.
PBKS topped the league stage points table and are followed by RCB. Both earned 19 points each, with PBKS having the better net run rate. GT are third, followed by MI. With PBKS and RCB both reaching Qualifier 1, this gives them an extra opportunity to reach the final; both teams are also on the hunt for their maiden IPL trophy.
The playoffs will be played from May 29, with the final slated for June 3. The four games will be hosted in Mullanpur and Ahmedabad.
IPL Playoffs Schedule:
May 29, Qualifier 1, PBKS vs RCB, Mullanpur
May 30, Eliminator, GT vs MI, Mullanpur
Jun 01, Qualifier 2, TBC vs TBC, Ahmedabad
Jun 03, Final, TBC vs TBC, Ahmedabad
All four teams will be missing some of their overseas players who have departed for national duties because the IPL 2025 was halted for one week earlier in May due to the Indo-Pak border tension and thus extended until June 3, while its original date for the final was May 25.
Some teams have signed temporary replacements for these players; to note is that the franchises cannot retain the temporary replacements for the next season, and they will be put back in the auction pool.
Here is the team-wise list of the overseas players who will miss IPL playoffs:
