Mitchell Starc Career Overview
Mitchell Aaron Starc was born on January 30, 1990, making him 35 years old. While he started as a wicketkeeper in junior cricket, he quickly shifted to become a pace bowler. He earned his first domestic contract with New South Wales in 2009. Starc impressed in competitions like the Sheffield Shield and was soon called up to the national team.
Starc was brought in as the replacement of an injured Josh Hazlewood for the 2010 Australian Cricket Team’s tour to India. He made his international debut in an ODI in October of that year against the Men in Blue. It took him more than a year to make his Test debut, doing so against New Zealand in December 2011.
In another year, he would also make his T20I debut against Pakistan. In 2012, he would also play in the Champions League Twenty20 for the legendary 2011-12 Sydney Sixers team, which also featured Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood.
By this time, Mitchell Starc was emerging as one of the best pace bowlers in international cricket. However, his problems with back injuries started around this time too, when he was ruled out after getting injured in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.
But he wasn’t a household name until now. That was about to change in the 2015 ODI World Cup, where Starc took 22 wickets in eight matches at an average of 10.18 and performed in big matches as well. For his heroics in Australia’s World Cup win, he was named the Player of the Tournament for that World Cup.
Since then, he has been dominating in major series like The Ashes and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy multiple times. The veteran pacer has also garnered an image of being a big-match player, doing his best in matches against big teams and in knockout games at all levels. From playing a big role in Australia’s 2023 ODI World Cup win to being the Player of the Match of the 2024 IPL for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
