Man United Might Be Favourite To Sign Gyokeres: Manchester United may have taken a significant step in the race to sign Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres, given that his ongoing negotiations with another English club, Arsenal, appear to have stalled.
Gyokeres, playing for the Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon, had a season to remember in 2024-25. The 27-year-old scored 39 and assisted seven goals in 33 Liga Portugal games, scored six goals in eight UEFA Champions League games, including a hat-trick against Manchester City, and scored 54 goals in total throughout the season.
And with the Swede being in his peak, both statistically and age-wise, Sporting is looking to offload him for a massive price, which was reported to be about 70 million euros.

Meanwhile, Arsenal has finished second in the Premier League for three seasons running. While wholesale changes on the side are not required, the club needs to bring in some big and effective names if they are to take a shot at the league title next season.
The Gunners are spending big this summer. They have spent 70M euros on Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, 55.40M euros on Chelsea winger Noni Madueke, and have also bought Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard and Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Despite having already spent over 140 million euros this summer, Gyokeres still seems to be their number one priority, as the absence of a world-class striker has been a big reason for Arsenal not winning the Premier League for the last three seasons.

However, despite Arsenal sending in a serious bid and the fact that Gyokeres has expressed his interest in playing for the London-based club, a certain club from Manchester might swoop in and sign the striker from under Arsenal’s noses.
Man United had a dismal 2024-25 season. Not only did they finish 15th in the Premier League, but they also lost the UEFA Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur. Under manager Ruben Amorim, this team is looking for a major rebuild. And after striker Marcus Rashford’s departure to Barcelona, they too need a strong striker.
Gyokeres has played under Ruben Amorim, as the Portuguese manager was in charge of Sporting before coming to United last season. And while Gyokeres wants to sign for Arsenal, Manchester United has reportedly submitted a bid of 80 million euros for the star striker.
It must be noted that the Swede’s relationship with his current club and management has fallen apart to the point that he hasn’t even shown up for pre-season training. And so, it is understood that Sporting Lisbon president Federico Varandas is chasing the best deal they can get for their star man, which at this point comes from United.
With more than a month remaining until the end of the ongoing summer transfer window, the saga of Viktor Gyokeres’ transfer promises to be the highlight story of this window.
