The IPL 2026 auction is not far away, and even nearer is the retention deadline day. The 10 IPL franchises will have to lock their lists of retained, released, and traded players by 3pm IST on November 15.
Like most trade windows, there have been rumors about big-name players moving around. Some franchises have used the trade window effectively in the past, in particular the Mumbai Indians, who previously traded in players like Quinton de Kock, Hardik Pandya, and Trent Boult.
When and where is the IPL 2026 auction?
The IPL 2026 auction will be held on December 16 in Abu Dhabi. This is the third consecutive year that the IPL auction will be held outside India, following Dubai and Jeddah as the auction venues in the last two years.
When does the trading window close?
The trading window will remain open even after the retention deadline of November 15. It will close until a week before the auction and then reopen to go on until a month from the start of IPL 2026. However, there is a rule that the franchises cannot trade away the players they bought in the auction.
Let us check out the list of trades confirmed or announced officially so far.
IPL 2026: List Of Trades Confirmed So Far In Trade Window Ahead Of Mini Auction
1. Thakur from LSG to MI
Shardul Thakur has been traded from Lucknow Super Giants to Mumbai Indians in an all-cash deal. He will join MI for INR 2 crore.
Thakur was roped in as a replacement player by LSG in IPL 2025 after going unsold in the auction. He picked up 13 wickets and was effective with the new ball.
2. Sherfane Rutherford from GT to MI
The second trade made by Mumbai Indians in this trade window so far is getting West Indies’ left-handed power hitter Sherfane Rutherford from Gujarat Titans at his auction selling price of INR 2.6 crore.
He had a good IPL 2025 season for GT, smashing 291 runs at an average of 32 and a strike rate of 157.
3. Mohammed Shami from SRH to LSG
India fast bowler Mohammed Shami will move from Sunrisers Hyderabad to Lucknow Super Giants for the IPL 2026 season. He was bought by LSG for a huge amount of INR 10 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, but his returns with the ball were dismal: 6 wickets at an average of 56 with an economy rate of over 11.
Releasing Shami frees up a lot of purse money for SRH. Shami will join former India bowling coach Bharat Arun at LSG.
4. Sanju Samson to CSK, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to RR
Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has been traded to Chennai Super Kings in return for two allrounders: Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curren. The trade saw two legendary players of their franchise, Samson of RR and Jadeja of CSK, finding new roads in the IPL careers.
