Lhuan dre-Pretorius Replaces Nitish Rana In RR: South African T20 specialist batter Lhuan dre-Pretorius has replaced Nitish Rana in the Rajasthan Royals squad for the remainder of IPL 2025. This comes after Rana was sidelined due to injury.
Lhuan is a solid wicketkeeper/batter whose game relies a lot on his freakish strength. He was the leading run scorer of SA20 2025, playing for the Paarl Royals, scoring 397 runs in 12 matches at a strike rate of 166.80. More recently, he signed up with Hampshire in the UK’s Vitality Blast and was even playing some domestic cricket.

The 19-year-old has been part of South Africa’s junior national teams but is yet to make his debut for the senior national team. In the 2024 U-19 World Cup, he was the highest run scorer for his team.
Dre-Pretorius will be replacing Nitish Rana in the RR squad. This is possible because the Royals had only bought seven overseas players in the mega-auction ahead of IPL 2025.
Rana, who was bought for Rs. 4.20 crore, was having a very mixed campaign in the IPLK this season. In the 11 matches he played for Rajasthan, he scored 217 runs at an average of 21.70 and a strike rate of almost 162. However, he did play a few good innings, including his quickfire 81 off 36 in a winning cause against CSK.

Like Nitish Rana, Lhuan dre-Pretorius is a top-order batter and is known to give his team a great start in the powerplay. So, like how Rana played at No. 3 and gave RR a good start on a few occasions, the young South African can do the same.
Currently, four overseas players are a regular part of the Royals’ playing XI. Shimron Hetmyer, Wanindu Hasaranga, Jofra Archer, and Maheesh Theekshana have played almost all games of this season together. However, someone like Theekshana can be brought in or out with the help of the Impact Player rule, allowing Pretorius to play.
As for the Rajasthan Royals, they are out of contention for a place in the playoffs in IPL 2025. With only three wins, six points, and a negative net run rate, the Royals are ninth on the points table.
