Dushmantha Chameera is a Sri Lankan professional cricketer who plays all three formats for the national team. He plays domestic cricket for Nondescripts Cricket Club. He made his international debut in January 2015 and is currently the most experienced fast bowler in the Sri Lanka team.

Chameera joined Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC) in 2012 and was quickly identified as a fast bowler for the future. He can bowl consistently over 140 kph and was considered the quickest bowler in Sri Lanka by the age of 23. After limited appearances in his first two seasons, he took 32 first-class wickets in the 2013–14 domestic season.

He was selected in Sri Lanka’s Test squad for the tour of New Zealand in late 2014 but did not play a Test match. He later made his international debut in an ODI in Wellington, where he dismissed Ross Taylor with a 146 kph delivery in his first over.

Dushmantha Chameera made his ODI debut for the Sri Lanka national cricket team against the New Zealand national cricket team on 29 January 2015. He took his first international wicket in his first over by bowling Ross Taylor and also dismissed Grant Elliott in the same match.

He was selected for the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup and took 3 wickets for 51 runs against Scotland in Sri Lanka’s final pool match.

Chameera made his Test debut against the Pakistan national cricket team in June 2015, becoming Sri Lanka’s 129th Test cap. He took his first Test wicket by dismissing Zulfiqar Babar and finished the match with figures of 4/76. He made his T20I debut against the West Indies national cricket team on 9 November 2015.

In May 2021, he took his first ODI five-wicket haul against the Bangladesh national cricket team and won the Player of the Match award. In September 2021, he delivered a match-winning spell against the South Africa national cricket team and was again named Player of the Match.

Dushmantha Chameera’s Personal Life

Dushmantha Chameera is married to Sulochana and they have two sons. Their elder son, Neyul Dhanulya, is 2 years old and travelled with his parents during the Afghanistan series. Their younger son, Tehas Minulya, who was 6 months old at that time, stayed with his grandfather Ajith.

His brother, Kusal Shanuka, watched the game from Latvia, where he was studying for his master’s degree. He said Chameera worked very hard to return after ankle surgery and being out of cricket for more than eight months. The series was his first after surgery, and he performed strongly.

In that series, Chameera won both Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards for the first time in the same series. His wife, Sulochana, was present at the ground to see him receive the trophies. She said she was proud of his comeback after surgery and hoped he would continue the same form in future matches and World Cup qualifiers.

In the IPL 2025 mega auction, he was bought by the Delhi Capitals for ₹75 lakh. His base price was ₹75,00,000, and he was sold at the same amount. His winning bid was ₹7,500,000 (75 lakh), which was about $0.09 million. He was the 113th player sold in that auction. The auction took place on November 25, 2024.
