Muhammad Waseem’s Personal Life
Muhammad Waseem was born in Mian Channu, in Punjab, Pakistan. He later became the captain of the UAE cricket team and the country’s first major cricket superstar. He is tall, muscular, and bearded, and draws huge crowds in the UAE.
He first came to the UAE on a visit visa, mainly to play a tournament during Ramadan, but his bigger goal was to find a job so he could support his family. In his early trips, he struggled and did not get major attention, and he also failed to secure stable work at first.
His life changed when he met Mudassir Ali, an entrepreneur, cricket team owner, and commentator who has roots in Hyderabad, India. Mudassir noticed Waseem not because of his batting, but because of his fielding, especially his pick-up and throw from the deep. Mudassir brought him into his club Chargers.
Mudassir also gave him a job as a sales executive in his company, Versatile Deployment Solutions, but after two months, he told Waseem to stop coming to the office so he could focus fully on cricket. Mudassir believed cricket was Waseem’s future and supported him.
After completing the eligibility requirement of three years’ residency, Waseem became eligible to represent the UAE and made his debut in 2021.
Waseem was told he could have been brought into the IPL, but could not because of his Pakistani nationality, since Pakistani players are not allowed in the league. A key emotional moment for Mudassir was when Waseem’s mother publicly thanked him for helping her son.
