Kamindu Mendis is a Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for the national team in all formats and for Colombo Cricket Club domestically. He made his international debut in October 2018. He played his first T20I against England on 27 October 2018, scoring 24 runs. He made his ODI debut against South Africa on 10 March 2019.

Mendis has served as vice-captain for Sri Lanka in the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup and the 2019 South Asian Games, where Sri Lanka won a silver medal. He was part of Sri Lanka’s squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and the 2022 ODI series against Zimbabwe. In May 2024, he was named in Sri Lanka’s squad for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Kamindu Mendis made his Test debut against Australia in July 2022, scoring his maiden Test fifty and forming a match-winning 133-run partnership with Dinesh Chandimal. During the England series, Mendis scored a century and multiple fifties, maintaining a Test batting average of 92.16, the second-highest in history for players with over 500 runs. 

In March 2024 against Bangladesh, Mendis scored twin centuries in a Test, becoming the first batter to score two hundreds while batting at No. 7 or lower and posting 266 runs, the second-most at that position in Test history behind Don Bradman. In the same series, he scored an unbeaten 92 in the second Test, equaling Javed Miandad’s record of 419 runs in the first four innings of a career.

Against New Zealand in Galle, Mendis scored centuries and an unbeaten 182, becoming the fastest Asian and third-fastest overall to reach 1,000 Test runs in just 13 innings. He also became the first player to score fifty-plus in each of his first eight Test matches, with a 21st-century record average of 91.27.

In first-class cricket, he has played 59 matches and scored 5,166 runs. He has achieved 19 centuries and 24 fifties.

Kamindu Mendis’s Personal Life

Mendis married his childhood sweetheart, Nishni, on April 23, 2024, at Jetwing Lighthouse in Sri Lanka. The wedding took place by the southern coast, with views of the Indian Ocean and a sunset backdrop. The venue added charm to the occasion, showing Sri Lanka’s scenic beauty and romantic settings.

For IPL 2026, Kamindu Mendis stays with Sunrisers Hyderabad at ₹75 lakh, the same as 2025. He is a rare ambidextrous bowler who can bowl both right-arm off-spin and left-arm orthodox spin. He reached 1,000 Test runs in just 13 innings, matching Don Bradman’s record, which is a huge achievement.
