KL Rahul gets bowled in IND vs ENG 5th Test: KL Rahul, the second-highest run-scorer of the IND vs ENG Test series, suffered a failure, and quite an unfortunate one, in India’s first innings of the 5th Test.
The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy remains alive as the fifth and last Test of the series kicked off on Thursday, but some of the sting was out of the contest as some heavyweight players across both teams were not playing.
Ben Stokes and Rishabh Pant are out of the 5th Test due to shoulder and foot injuries, respectively, while the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Brydon Carse, and Jofra Archer have been rested. Both teams, in fact, made four changes each to their lineups that featured in the drawn Manchester Test.
One of the constants, though, throughout the series has been India opener KL Rahul, who scored the second-most number of runs in this series until the end of the 4th Test.
This IND vs ENG series has been the most prolific Test series of KL Rahul’s career: this is the most runs he’s scored in a series—his first time piling up more than 500 runs—and also the first time he’s hit more than one century in a Test series.

However, he managed to add only 14 runs to his runs tally as he was dismissed cheaply by Chris Woakes at The Oval, though that wicket came through some great bowling and luck favouring Woakes.
Under overcast conditions and on a greenish pitch, Rahul had done well in the first hour, scoring 14 runs off 39 balls with one boundary, en route showcasing his elite defence and astute judgement in leaving deliveries outside the off-stump.
He’d hit only one boundary in 39 balls. So when he got an opportunity to cash in a second boundary, as Woakes pitched a delivery slightly back of length and outside the off-stump, Rahul went hard with his slash.
However, to Rahul’s dismay, the ball jagged in considerably and also remained a touch lower than he anticipated, both of which led to him undercutting the ball onto his stumps. Rahul looked at the pitch for a couple of seconds, suggesting the low bounce and seam movement that did for him, before walking off while shaking his head.
