The tournament will feature 10 teams, just like the last three editions. However, due to the auction shake-up, teams now have fresh rosters, making the battle for the trophy even more unpredictable.

Team Retentions & Mega-Auction Shake-up
Each team had the option to retain up to six players before the auction, but many franchises opted for major overhauls, rebuilding their squads almost from scratch. This reshuffling means fresh team combinations, unexpected player trades, and a whole new level of excitement!
- Chennai and Mumbai, the most successful franchises with five titles each, have retained their core but introduced new talents.
- Teams like Bengaluru and Punjab have undergone significant revamps, aiming for their first-ever title win.
IPL 2025: Group Division & League Structure
Like previous seasons, the 10 teams are divided into two groups:

- Each team will play twice against others in their group.
- They will play twice against one designated team from the other group and once against the remaining four teams from the opposite group.
- A total of 74 matches will be played, including 12 double-headers.
- Afternoon games will start at 3:30 PM, while evening matches will kick off at 7:30 PM.
IPL 2025 Playoffs & Road to the Final
The top four teams at the end of the league stage will advance to the playoffs.
- The top two teams will have an advantage, getting two chances to reach the final.
- The group stage concludes on May 18 with a match between Lucknow and Hyderabad.
- The playoffs begin on May 20, with the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator in Hyderabad.
- The tournament then moves to Kolkata for Qualifier 2 and the Final on May 25.
