: International sporting stars have reacted to Virat Kohli’s retirement from Test cricket, wishing the superstar well on leaving the longest format of the game and wishing him well for the road ahead.

There had been rumours over the weekend that Kohli is considering retirement from Test cricket. However, not many expected him to announce it on a random Monday morning without any ceremony. But that is exactly what happened.

The 36-year-old leaves Test cricket after 123 games and 210 innings. In this time, he scored 9230 runs at an average of 46.85, with 31 half-centuries, 30 tons, and seven double-hundreds under his belt. These stats were even more impressive before 2020, when, in 84 Tests, he had an average of about 55 and 27 centuries.

However, more than a player, Virat’s legacy in Test cricket comes as a captain. He led the Indian Cricket Team for 68 games in the format, the most for any Indian ever. Out of these, he won 40, lost 17, and drew only 11 matches with a win percentage of 58.82.

The face of global cricket, Test cricket, is statistically Kohli’s weakest format, and he is still an absolute beast in it. This makes his retirement from the format the biggest sporting news of the week.

And thus, several international sporting stars have reacted to Kohli’s Test retirement. These stars come from across nationalities and sports.
