Dushan Hemantha is a Sri Lankan cricketer. He plays for Dambulla Aura in domestic cricket. In January 2023, he was named in Sri Lanka A’s squad for the first-class and List A series against England Lions. On 18 February 2023, he took a five-wicket haul in the second unofficial ODI, helping Sri Lanka A win. He took 11 wickets in the List A series at an average of 11.45 and was named Player of the Series.
In May 2023, he was named in Sri Lanka’s ODI squad for the series against Afghanistan. He made his ODI debut for the Sri Lanka national cricket team on 2 June 2023 against the Afghanistan national cricket team.

Dushan Hemantha’s Personal Life
Dushan Hemantha’s passion for cricket was identified by his father, Sujith Hemantha, when he was seven years old. His father, a school-level coach, first trained him as an off-spinner but later encouraged him to switch to leg-spin for better wicket-taking ability.
He studied at St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya, where he captained the school in all age groups. He represented the school for four consecutive years in the Battle of the Saints big match and played a key role in victories, including the 78th encounter.
Apart from cricket, he was also a talented athlete. He won a bronze medal in the 1500m event at the South Asian Junior Athletics Championships after being invited to join the junior national athletic squad by coach Sajith Jayalal. He balanced athletics and cricket for three years before focusing fully on cricket to pursue his dream of representing Sri Lanka.

Dushan Hemantha has been approved as a replacement for Wanindu Hasaranga in the Sri Lanka national cricket team squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Hasaranga was ruled out due to a left hamstring injury sustained in the match against Ireland on 8 February 2026.
Hemantha, who has played five ODIs and three T20Is, was officially added after receiving approval from the Event Technical Committee of the tournament.
