Nathan Ellis is an Australian cricketer who made his international debut in August 2021. He became the first player to take a hat-trick on his debut in a T20 International, achieving this against Bangladesh in 2021.
Ellis was raised in Sydney and moved to Hobart in 2017 to find better cricket opportunities after taking 160 wickets in four seasons of NSW Premier Cricket. He made his Big Bash League debut for Hobart Hurricanes in 2018 and became known as a strong death bowler with accurate yorkers and slower balls.
Ellis also made his first-class debut for Tasmania in 2020. Most of his international and overseas matches have been in white-ball formats. He earned a Cricket Australia contract for 2024–25. He was appointed captain of Hobart Hurricanes before BBL|13 and led the team to the BBL|14 title in January 2025.

Nathan Ellis’s Personal Life
Nathan moved from New South Wales to Tasmania at the age of 22 to pursue cricket, even though he did not have a contract or a stable job. He moved out of his home for the first time and struggled financially in the early years.
To support himself, he worked five to six different jobs. These included landscaping, furniture removal, furnishing, and construction work. He often had to quit jobs because they clashed with match days or training. He would wake up early for gym sessions and then manage work shifts around cricket practice.
Despite performing well in grade cricket, he did not immediately break into the Tasmania state team. After two seasons without selection, he seriously considered quitting cricket and returning home because he was not saving money or building a stable career.
Tasmania coach Adam Griffith convinced him to stay for one more season and train with the squad during pre-season. That decision changed his career. He earned a call-up to Tasmania and secured a Big Bash contract.

Nathan Ellis was awarded a central contract by Cricket Australia for the 2024–25 season. He was included in a 23-player list announced on 28 March 2024 ahead of a major home season that includes a Test series against India. Although he was not initially offered a contract for 2023–24, he earned an upgrade during the season through his performances in ODI and T20I tours.
