IND vs PAK: The Indian Cricket Team defeated Pakistan quite comfortably in a Group A game of the 2026 T20 World Cup between the two archrivals. With this win, the Indians booked their place in the Super 8 stage of the competition.
The India vs. Pakistan game was Match 27 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The contest was played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo. The Men in Green won the toss and decided to bowl first.

While the decision to bowl first was quite surprising, it seemed correct soon after the match started, as Pakistani captain Salman Ali Agha dismissed the dangerous Abhishek Sharma for a duck in the first over of the match.
The prediction was that it would rain over Colombo during this match. However, the only rain this evening was the rain of boundaries by one Ishan Kishan. The wicketkeeper/opener brought about a storm that blew the otherwise impressive Pakistan bowling away.
Neutralising Shaheen Afridi from his first over, dismissing the likes of Abrar Ahmed and Shadab Khan with the bat, and taking charge of India’s run scoring in the powerplay, Kishan did it all.
By the time Ishan was out in the ninth over at the team score of 88/2, he had made 77 of those runs, that too in just 40 deliveries.
India drastically slowed down after Ishan Kishan’s wicket. The pair of Tilak Varma and captain Suryakumar Yadav played a lot more cautiously. The decreasing run rate could also be attributed to some great bowling by the likes of Saim Ayub, Usman Tariq, and Mohammad Nawaz.Check Out: India Demolish Pakistan in Group A T20 World Cup
In the 15th over, bowled by Ayub, the Men in Blue lost two wickets. First, Tilak was dismissed for 25 off 24, and then Hardik Pandya got out for a golden duck. India needed a good few death overs.
Those came at the hands of Shivam Dube, who made 27 off 17, and Rinku Singh, who scored 11 off four. With a strong finish, India managed to get to a respectable score of 175/5 on a challenging pitch. Out of the 20 overs bowled by Pakistan, 18 were bowled by spinners.
While the match might have looked like it was on the brink at halftime, that notion was squashed by the Indian bowling from the very first over of the second inning, as Hardik Pandya dismissed in-form opener Sahibzada Farhan for a duck.
Saim Ayub got out in the second over at the hands of Jasprit Bumrah, a ball after he edged a ball for six. At the end of the second over, team captain Salman Ali Agha, looking to dispatch Bumrah of all bowlers for a six, instead hit it all the way in the air and was caught for a run-a-ball four.
Babar Azam was Pakistan’s fourth wicket inside the powerplay, being bowled by Axar Patel after making five off seven. The Men in Green’s best partnership in this match was between Usman Khan and Shadab Khan. Wicketkeeper Usman especially took charge of scoring the most runs here.
The two batted for about six overs together. Before being dismissed by Axar Patel in the 11th, Usman Khan made 44 off 34 and looked generally solid in his time at the crease.
At 73/5, with over 100 runs required in about nine overs, the game was essentially over for Pakistan, especially when two more wickets fell in the next nine deliveries.
The tail did not provide much resistance, and Pakistan was all out at 114 runs in 18 overs. While Usman Khan was the standout with the bat in this inning, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakravarthy picked up four wickets each, with Varun doing so with the best economy of 5.67.
For his excellent outing with the bat, Ishan Kishan was named the Player of the Match in this India vs Pakistan match.
With this win, combined with those against the USA and Namibia earlier in this tournament, not only has the Indian Cricket Team jumped to the top of Group A in the 2026 T20 World Cup, but they have also confirmed their qualification into the Super 8 stage of the competition.
