Dhruv Jurel is an Indian cricketer who plays as a right-handed batter and wicket-keeper. He represents Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket and plays for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. He was the vice-captain of India’s Under-19 team at the 2020 U19 World Cup.
In January 2024, Jurel received his first call-up to the Indian Test squad for the opening two matches against England. He made his Test debut on 15 February 2024 in the third Test at Rajkot, where he scored 46 runs in his first innings. He did not bat in the second innings as India declared.
In the fourth Test at Ranchi, Jurel scored 90 runs in the first innings, the highest for India, when the team was under pressure. Dhruv Jurel’s Personal Life
Dhruv Jurel was born in Agra and is the son of Nem Singh, a retired Havaldar in the Indian Army and a Kargil war veteran. His father initially wanted him to join the Army through the NDA, but Dhruv was deeply interested in cricket from a young age.
No one in his family had a cricket background, and his parents were worried about his future because cricket was risky and Dhruv was not strong in studies. Still, people who watched him bat told his father that he had talent and should continue playing. His father then approached coach Parvendra Yadav of Springdale Academy in Agra to train him.
Cricket was financially difficult for the family. When Dhruv wanted his first bat costing ₹800, his father had to borrow money. Later, when Dhruv needed a kit bag worth around ₹6,000, his mother sold her gold chain to buy his first cricket kit.
