Amid a slew of white-ball internationals and three Test series in men’s cricket, the month of October and the start of November were headlined by an exciting ICC Women’s World Cup event that saw India win the women’s title for the first time in their history.
Harmanpreet Kaur captained India to their maiden ICC Women’s World Cup trophy, in any format, which included a run of three wins in the second half of the tournament that saw them beat New Zealand in a must-win league stage match, Australia in the semi-final, and South Africa in the final.
Meanwhile in men’s cricket, several teams took part in limited-overs international matches as they strengthened their plans for next year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and started building for the ICC Men’s World Cup 2027.
Three Test series were played in October: India vs West Indies, Pakistan vs South Africa, and Afghanistan vs Zimbabwe.
The ICC has announced the winners of the ICC Player of the Month for October in men’s and women’s international cricket.
Who Won ICC Player of the Month For October In Men’s And Women’s Cricket?
The ICC Player of the Month awards for October 2025 are South Africa’s left-arm spinner Senuran Muthusamy and the South African women’s team captain and opener Laura Wolvaardt.
Muthusamy beat final contenders Noman Ali (Pakistan) and Rashid Khan (Afghanistan) to win the first ICC Men’s Player of the Month award.
Muthusamy was the Player of the Series award winner in the two-Test series in Pakistan, which ended with a 1-1 draw. He picked up 11 wickets at an average of 18.3 and scored 106 runs at an average of 53 to help his side level the series after going down in the first Test.
In the series, he recorded his best innings bowling figures of 6/117, best match figures of 11/174, and also his highest Test score of 89*.
Muthusamy and South Africa’s next frontier is India, where they will play two Tests in November.
The ICC Women’s Player of the Month for October 2025 is Laura Wolvaardt, who led South Africa women’s team to the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 but fell short in the final against hosts India. Wolvaardt beat Smriti Mandhana and Ash Gardner to this award.
Wolvaardt was outstanding with the bat and inspirational as a leader. She played eight ODIs in October, in which she amassed 470 runs at a terrific average of 67 and a strike rate of 97. This included one century and three fifties. The century here is the epic knock of 169 in the semi-final against England.
This rich vein of form, which included a century in the final too, also saw Wolvaardt rise to the No. 1 ICC Women’s ODI Batter ranking, replacing Smriti Mandhana.
