Akash Deep Gives A Send Off To Ben Duckett After Taking His Wicket

Akash Deep Gives A Send Off To Ben Duckett: India pacer Akash Deep gave an unusual and, to be fair, unnecessary send-off to England opener Ben Duckett after dismissing the left-hander during England’s first innings of the IND vs ENG 5th Test at The Oval.

The first session of day 2 of the 5th Test was utterly bossed by England. Such was the dominance of the hosts pre-lunch on Friday that they cut down the deficit in the first innings by almost half, going into lunch at 109/1 and trailing by only 115 more runs. That is despite India starting the day with four wickets in hand.

First, Josh Tongue and Gus Atkinson cleaned up India’s first innings. India scored only 20 more runs on day 2 for their last four wickets and batted for merely 35 balls, getting bowled out for 224.

While the conditions remained somewhat similar when England batted, overcast and the pitch offering seam movement, the imperiousness and fearlessness of the England openers, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, overpowered all of India’s plans.

The duo went the proper Bazball way against Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Prasidh Krishna to bring up England’s 100 runs inside 15 overs.

Duckett smashed 43 from 38 deliveries, while Crawley remained unbeaten with a fluent 52 off 43. At No. 3, Ollie Pope also got going quickly, finding the boundary twice in his first 11 balls.

Duckett and Akash exchanged plenty of words while the left-hander was at the crease. Duckett had played a stunning reverse scoop that went for a six off Deep.

Not long after, Duckett went for another reverse scoop against Deep, but this time he only managed to glove it through to the keeper, Dhruv Jurel. Deep was pumped up with the wicket and gave Duckett a send-off. He, in fact, put his arm around Duckett’s shoulder and said plenty of words as Duckett walked off towards the dressing room.

Deep was still into Duckett’s face for a few seconds before teammate KL Rahul pulled him away. The England opener didn’t give any reaction, avoiding turning it into an ugly scene. Nobody was impressed with Deep’s actions: the fans, commentators, and even the umpires took note of it; umpire Ahsan Raza was seen having a word with Akash Deep about his actions.
