When and where is the Asia Cup 2025: The lid on the uncertainty regarding this year’s men’s Asia Cup was lifted on Saturday by Mohsin Naqvi, the President of the ACC and the PCB.
The Asia Cup 2025 had come under the scanner earlier following the border tensions between India and Pakistan. In April, the Pahalgam terrorist attacks shocked India, and the Indian government retaliated with their own strikes in May. A mini-war-like situation had escalated between the two countries before the ceasefire was announced.
The plans for the Asia Cup 2025, which was slated to take place later in the year in India, were disrupted amid the severing of Indo-Pak border relations. However, now, the tournament’s progression is back on track, and it was confirmed by none other than the ACC president following the recent ACC meeting in Dhaka this weekend.
When and where is the Asia Cup 2025?
ACC president Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that the Asia Cup this year will be held from September 9th to 28th. Naqvi didn’t confirm the venue yet, but it is certain that the tournament will be played in a hybrid format or entirely in any country but India or Pakistan. It is all but confirmed that the Asia Cup 2025 will be played in the UAE.
Although the BCCI are the designated host of the Asia Cup 2025, due to an agreement between the PCB and the BCCI, tournaments slated to be hosted by India or Pakistan will be played in a hybrid format as both countries won’t travel to the other.
Earlier, the PCB were the designated host of the ICC Champions Trophy, but all of India’s matches, including the semi-final and the final, were played in Dubai.
“I am delighted to confirm the dates of the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 in UAE. The prestigious tournament will take place from September 9th to 28th. We look forward to a spectacular display of cricket. Details scheduled will be out soon,” Naqvi was quoted as saying.
Eight teams will participate in the Asia Cup: India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, UAE, and Oman.
The format of the Asia Cup will once again be such that there will be a scope of three India vs Pakistan matches, although that has not happened for a long time since both teams have not reached the final together. India and Pakistan are said to be in the same group. Hence, they could meet thrice: in the first round group, the Super 4, and if they reach the final.
The Asia Cup 2025 will be in T20 format, considering next year’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. This means that fans will not get to witness Indian legends Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja in this year’s Asia Cup. India are the defending Asia Cup champions, having won the title in 2023 by beating Sri Lanka in the final.
