India Squad For 4th Test. Uncapped Bowler Gets the Call

India Squad For 4th Test: 24-year-old Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj could be in line to make his Test debut in Manchester against England as India are reeling with injuries ahead of the IND vs ENG 4th Test.

Two days out from the Manchester Test, the BCCI revealed the squad for the 4th Test and notified the fans of injuries to a couple of players.

England, the hosts, are currently leading the five-match Test series by 2-1. They won the first and third Test in Leeds and Lord’s, respectively, while India won the second Test of the series at Edgbaston.

The 4th Test will be played from July 23 at Old Trafford in Manchester, where India have not won a single Test match in nine attempts. At Old Trafford, India have lost four Tests and drawn five, never winning any Test here.

India vs England: Changes in India squad

The BCCI confirmed that all-rounder Nitish Reddy has been ruled out of the remainder of the series due to a knee injury. It was earlier reported that Reddy suffered an injury in his left knee while training in the gym. The board confirmed that Reddy will return to India to decide the course of recovery.

Further, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, who has been part of the squad for this series but hadn’t gotten any opportunity at Test level hitherto, will not be available for selection for the fourth Test because of an injury to his left thumb.

The BCCI said, “He sustained an impact injury to his left thumb while bowling in the nets at a training session in Beckenham. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress.”

The BCCI selectors have added young pacer Anshul Kamboj to the squad, and he has joined the side in Manchester. Kamboj has experience of 24 first-class matches, in which he’s taken 79 wickets at an average of 22 with two four-fors and two five-fors, and scored 486 runs.

Recently, he played two first-class games against the England Lions and was impressive with both bat and ball. In November last year, Anshul became only the sixth Indian bowler to take all 10 wickets in an innings in first-class cricket when he took 10/49 against Kerala in their Ranji Trophy encounter.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that pacer Akash Deep is also unfit for the Manchester Test, though the BCCI update didn’t include anything on him.

Deep reportedly has a groin niggle that he picked up during the Lord’s Test. The absence of Arshdeep Singh and Nitish Reddy and the potential absence of Akash Deep could pave the way for a debut for Kamboj in Manchester.

India may also bring back Shardul Thakur in the lineup after dropping him following the loss in Leeds. India could also opt for a more potent option in Kuldeep Yadav, but that would mean playing three spinners, including Jadeja and Sundar, which is unlikely.
