Harry Brook Climbs To Top Of ICC Test Rankings: England Cricket Team batter Harry Brook has climbed to the top of the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings, leaving behind his fellow countryman Joe Root to take the crown. This comes after his strong performance in the second England vs India Test match.
Brook has been in fine form in the ongoing five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. In the first Test at Headingley in Leeds, the No. 5 batter for England scored 99 runs in the first inning, falling one run short of a ton. However, he was dismissed for a duck in the second inning, despite which the Three Lions won that match by five wickets.
In the second match at Edgbaston in Birmingham, after India scored a mammoth 587 runs in the first inning and the England top order collapsed, the 26-year-old formed a 300+ run partnership, making 158 runs himself and saving his team from a follow-on. Then. But just like in the first match, Brook could not replicate his first-inning performance in the second inning and got out for 23.

With 280 runs in just two Test matches, Harry Brook is among the highest run scorers for England in the series, which currently stands 1-1. Couple that with the former No. 1 Test batter Joe Root not doing too well in this series, and Brook has climbed to the top spot with a rating of 886.
Joe Root has slipped to second with a rating of 868. He has just hit one half-century in four innings in the England vs India series. New Zealand’s Kane Williamson rounds out the top three with a rating of 867. He is currently playing county cricket and the Vitality Blast T20 league in England.
Yashasvi Jaiswal holds on to the No. 4 spot with a rating of 858. He scored a ton in the first Test against England and a solid 87-run inning in the second Test. Australia’s Steve Smith, who scored a 71-run innings against the West Indies in the most recent Test, rounds out the top five with a rating of 813.

At No. 6 is a new addition to the top 10. New Indian Cricket Team Test captain Shubman Gill. With 585 runs in two matches, which includes two centuries and a double-century, Gill has jumped 15 places and is now at number six with a ranking of 807.
South Africa’s Temba Bavuma, who scored over 100 runs in two innings as the South African captain in the World Test Championship final, is ranked seventh with 790 rating points. Meanwhile, Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is joint-seventh with the same rating points. He scored two centuries in the first Test against England.
To round out the top 10, here come Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis at No. 9 with a rating of 781 and English wicketkeeper Jamie Smith at 10th with 753 rating points. Kamindu has an average of over 62 in Tests after playing 14 matches, in which he has scored five centuries. On the other hand, Smith climbed 16 spots to make it to the top 10. This comes after making over 250 runs in the second Test against India, 184 of which were in the first inning.
The third India vs England Test match will start on July 10 and will be played at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. This match will have some impact on the Test player rankings as well.
