BCCI Stands Firm on Family Time Policy Despite Virat Kohli’s Displeasure

The BCCI has addressed concerns raised by Virat Kohli and other Indian players over the board’s new policies restricting family time during tours.

After India’s disappointing performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 in Australia and a crushing 3-0 home series loss to New Zealand, the BCCI introduced stricter policies, including a rule limiting players’ time with their spouses and children to two weeks on long tours.

Reports from Cricbuzz suggest that some players voiced their frustration during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, a 20-day tournament.

Virat Kohli Expresses Disappointment Over Family Restrictions

Following India’s triumphant return from Dubai after winning the Champions Trophy, Virat Kohli openly criticized the board’s new directive. Speaking at an event in Bengaluru, the former Indian captain admitted he was “quite disappointed” with the policy.

“If you ask any player whether they want their family around, the answer is always yes. Nobody wants to sit alone in their room and sulk. Having family around helps us stay normal. We fulfill our responsibility on the field and then return to our real lives,” Kohli said.

He also criticized the board’s approach, stating that “people who have no control over what’s going on are being dragged into conversations unnecessarily.”

BCCI Responds: No Plans to Change the Policy

Despite opposition from players, the BCCI remains firm on its decision. The board’s newly appointed Secretary, Devajit Saikia, confirmed that the rule will not change anytime soon.

“At this stage, the current policy will remain intact. It is crucial for both the nation and the institution of BCCI,” Saikia told Cricbuzz.

While acknowledging the players’ dissatisfaction, Saikia emphasized that such rules have existed for decades.

“This policy isn’t new. It has been in place since the playing days of our president, Roger Binny, and possibly even earlier. We have simply modified it based on the current scenario.”

With the BCCI holding its ground, it remains to be seen how Indian cricketers will adapt to these restrictions in upcoming tours.
