Ben Askren Wife Responds to False Death Rumours of the Fighter

Ben Askren Wife Responds to False Death Rumours: Former UFC fighter Ben Askren remains hospitalised following a sudden medical emergency last weekend, with his wife, Amy Askren, dismissing unfounded social media rumours that the ex-MMA star had died.

Askren, 39, was reportedly rushed to the hospital after becoming unresponsive due to illness. Concern among fans and the combat sports community intensified earlier this week as speculation about his condition spiralled, including several false claims of his death.

Ben Askren Updates: Ben Askren Wife Responds to False Death Rumours

His wife, Amy, issued a statement to TMZ, making it clear that her husband is alive and continuing to fight for recovery.

“He is alive and any rumour he has died is completely false,” she said. “[He is] definitely still fighting.”

The clarification followed an earlier, inaccurate statement from Askren’s long-time friend and fellow fighter Daniel Cormier, who on a podcast episode suggested Askren had been released from hospital and was recovering at home.

Cormier later corrected his remarks via social media:

“He’s back in Wisconsin in a hospital. He isn’t home. Please keep praying for Ben. I should have been more clear.”

David Potter, a respected figure in the wrestling and MMA community, also urged caution in the face of widespread misinformation.

“No, our friend Ben Askren has not passed away. But the situation is still dire,” Potter posted. “Do the right thing and take care of [his] kids, do not share unconfirmed information.”

A Decorated Career, A Sudden Emergency

Askren’s career spanned multiple promotions, with championship reigns in Bellator and ONE Championship prior to joining the UFC in 2019. Known for his wrestling pedigree and unconventional striking style, he made an immediate impact in his UFC debut, defeating Robbie Lawler in a controversial bout.

His tenure in the UFC also included one of the most talked-about moments in the sport’s history—a five-second knockout loss to Jorge Masvidal via flying knee, the fastest KO in UFC history. After another defeat to grappling specialist Demian Maia, Askren retired from MMA in late 2019.

He returned to combat sports in 2021 for a highly publicised boxing match against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, which ended in a first-round loss.

Support from Family and Fans

Amy Askren has continued to provide updates, asking for privacy while expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support.

“Feeling so incredibly thankful for our friends and community. It’s times like this that remind you how truly blessed you are,” she wrote on social media. “Please keep praying for Ben.”

Askren, a former Olympian and long-time ambassador for wrestling and MMA, has been married for 15 years and is a father of three.

No official update on his diagnosis or prognosis has been released at the time of publication.
