Twitter reactions to Virat Kohli winning the IPL for the First Time

Twitter reactions to Virat Kohli winning the IPL: Finally. And finally, after a long, long wait of 17 years, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Virat Kohli fulfilled their dream of lifting the IPL trophy as RCB defeated the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 final on Tuesday evening in Ahmedabad.

Both teams headed into the final with great form and with the single aim of winning their first-ever IPL trophy. Both have previously been in IPL finals but have failed to get their hands on the coveted title.

While Punjab had lost one final, in 2014, RCB had suffered three IPL finals defeats, in 2009, 2011, and 2016. Kohli, who is the only player in IPL history to have played all 18 seasons for a single franchise, featured in all of those three finals and ended up on the losing side.

But not this time. “It’s been 18 long years. I have given this team my youth and my experience,” said an emotional Virat Kohli after RCB sealed the final.

As the victory line was visible in the last over, when Josh Hazlewood bowled two dot balls in the first two balls of the last over, leaving Punjab needing 29 runs off the last four balls, Kohli could be seen getting emotional.

As the over progressed and RCB inched towards the victory line and the trophy, Kohli’s face started to get red with emotions and tears. Eventually, after the final delivery was bowled, which Shashank Singh sent to a fruitless boundary, Kohli had his hand on his face and sank to the ground.

He broke down in tears as the crowd and the RCB players went crazy. In quick time, he was mobbed by his teammates. Kohli was soon joined by his wife, Anushka Sharma, in the celebrations.

Fans on Twitter too erupted in joy and got emotional on social media.

After the win, Virat Kohli said, “This win is as much for the fans as it is for the team. It’s been 18 long years. I’ve given this team my youth, prime and experience. I’ve tried to win it every season, gave it everything I have. To finally have it is an unbelievable feeling. Never thought this day would come, I was overcome with emotion after the last ball was bowled. Gave each and every ounce of my energy and it’s an amazing feeling. My heart is with Bangalore, my soul is with Bangalore.”
