Virat And Anushka Land In Delhi After Retirement

Virat And Anushka Land In Delhi After Retirement: Legendary Indian cricketer Virat Kohli just touched down at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi with his wife, Anushka Sharma. This comes after Kohli’s unceremonious retirement from Test cricket.

Virat announced his retirement from Test cricket earlier today. While there were reports that the 36-year-old is considering retiring from the longest format of international cricket, no one could predict that he would just announce his leaving the format out of the blue on a Monday morning.

Kohli retired from Tests after playing a whopping 123 games in the format and batting in 210 innings. Since making his debut against the West Indies in 2011, ‘the King’ scored 9230 runs in the format with an average of 46.85. He scored 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries and will end his career as the fourth-highest Indian run-scorer in Test history.

While these stats are solid, before 2020, Virat was the greatest batter in the world across formats and arguably the greatest in Tests, maybe right behind Steve Smith. Before the pandemic, in 84 Tests, Kohli had a Test average of 54.07 and had scored 27 100s.

Kohli, along with wife and Bollywood star Anushka Sharma, has landed in Delhi just hours after his retirement announcement. There was no news of his arrival to his home town, and hence, he was not flooded by the paparazzi or the fans.

But now, the superstar veteran will retire from red-ball cricket for the Indian Cricket Team after a poor Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year. Although, he did score his last ton in the format in the first match of the BGT. This retirement comes before the ultra-challenging five-Test tour to England in the summer.

His retirement also comes in the shadow of Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket not more than a week ago. Rohit took the captaincy of the Indian Cricket Team from Virat a few years ago. These two, along with Ravichandran Ashwin, who retired from international cricket during BGT, have not left India in very young hands.

With Virat Kohli’s retirement from Tests, it only leaves ODI cricket, where he and Virat will appear for the Indian Cricket Team. This is because the two already left T20Is behind after winning the T20 World Cup in 2024. But now, it leaves the national team with the massive burden of replacing two star players ahead of the England tour.
