CSK vs KKR: “A Win For The Ages” CSK Fans Celebrate Consolation Victory As MS Dhoni Smashes Last-Over Six

Twitter reactions of CSK fans to CSK Win: The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) played the perfect party spoilers for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as MS Dhoni’s side thumped Ajinkya Rahane’s team by two wickets on Wednesday evening at the Eden Gardens.

While CSK were already out of the playoffs race, and playing for consolation and something to savor, KKR had their playoff slot on the line and they are now almost out of contention for the top four race. KKR now have 11 points in 12 games; the best they can now get is 15 points, which are unlikely to be enough to take them through to the playoffs.

Although the venue was KKR’s home ground, a sea of yellow had spread across the Eden Gardens. The CSK fans got their wish fulfilled as MS Dhoni stayed at the crease till the end to see the chase over the line. Moreover, the fans got a last-over thriller in which Dhoni smashed Andre Russell for a six when eight runs were needed off the last six balls.

Anshul Kamboh, the No. 10, who got the strike after Dhoni took a single, pumped Russell over mid-on for a four to seal the run chase.

CSK vs KKR: Dewald Brevis continues to impress in CSK jersey

KKR had set CSK a target of 180 runs on a pitch that wasn’t easy to bat on. It got more challenging as the game progressed: CSK lost their first five wickets for only 60 runs and were kept alive in the chase by a special innings from Dewald Brevis, his first half-century in the IPL. His knock included a 30-run over off Vaibhav Arora.

The young South African blasted four fours and as many sixes in his thunderous innings of 52 runs off 25 balls. At the other end was Shivam Dube, who was nowhere as destructive as Brevis but hung in till the penultimate over with his 45 (40) and departed, leaving CSK needing 10 runs off 8 balls.

Earlier, Noor Ahmad was critical in halting KKR at 179 with his four-wicket haul. For KKR, their skipper Ajinkya Rahane top-scored with 48, and 36 from Manish Pandey and 38 from Russell took the hosts close to 180, which Rahane said he felt were “10-15 short.” “185-195 would have been an ideal total,” the KKR captain said after the match, adding, “They (Brevis and Dube) took their chances, and it paid off. All about being brave, and they were really brave.”

Meanwhile, this victory, the last over six from Dhoni, and Brevis’ onslaught provided CSK fans plenty to cheer about in what has been a disappointing season for the five-time champions.
