India Dominates ICC ODI Rankings After Champions Trophy Triumph

Following India’s unbeaten run to their third Champions Trophy title, several star players have climbed the ICC ODI rankings. Four Indian batters now feature in the top eight worldwide, with Shubman Gill retaining his No. 1 spot.

  • Rohit Sharma, the Player of the Final for his match-winning 76, has moved up two places to No. 3.
  • Virat Kohli, who amassed 218 runs in the tournament, now stands at No. 5.
  • Shreyas Iyer has held on to his No. 8 ranking.

Indian Spinners Shine in the Rankings

India’s dominant spin attack played a crucial role in their title-winning campaign, leading to two of their spinners breaking into the top 10 ODI bowlers:

  • Kuldeep Yadav, who struck early in the final, has climbed to third place.
  • Ravindra Jadeja, with an exceptional economy rate of 4.35, is now ranked 10th.

India’s Upcoming ODI Fixtures

After their Champions Trophy victory, India’s next ODI series is:

  • August – Away tour of Bangladesh
  • October-November – ODIs in Australia
  • December-January – Home series against South Africa & New Zealand

With the 2027 ODI World Cup still some years away, the question remains: Will Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli continue playing ODIs?

Ricky Ponting on Rohit Sharma’s ODI Future

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting believes Rohit still has “unfinished business” in ODI cricket.

“Losing the last one (2023 ODI World Cup in India) as captain might still be on his mind. He may want one more shot at winning the T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy, and ODI World Cup,” Ponting told ICC.tv.

New Zealand Players Rise in ODI Rankings

New Zealand’s stellar Champions Trophy campaign has also reflected in the rankings:

  • Mitchell Santner, who took nine wickets with an economy of 4.80, has surged six places to No. 2 in the bowlers’ rankings.
  • Santner is also fourth in the allrounders’ rankings, while teammate Michael Bracewell (NZ’s second-highest wicket-taker) has climbed to No. 7.
  • Rachin Ravindra, the tournament’s highest run-scorer, made major strides:
    • Up 14 places to No. 14 among ODI batters.
    • Jumped eight places to No. 8 in the allrounders’ rankings.

India’s dominance in the ICC ODI rankings following their Champions Trophy win highlights their strength, while New Zealand’s rising stars continue to make an impact on the global stage.
