Senior Indian cricket team players Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant are likely to feature in the third red-ball, multi-day game in the India A vs New Zealand A series.
The India A vs New Zealand A three-match red-ball series began on October 24 in Lincoln, where at the end of day 3, India A have a massive lead of 284 runs courtesy of Devdutt Padikkal’s terrific 199.
The second match is scheduled to kick off on October 31 in Christchurch, while the third IND vs vs NZ A red-ball fixture will be played in Lincoln again, from November 7.
The India A vs New Zealand A three-match series precedes the two-match IND vs NZ Test series, which is slated to start on November 19.
Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant are currently at the CoE in Bengaluru
It has been reported by Cricinfo that the BCCI selectors are planning to add Bumrah and Pant to the India A squad for the third multi-day fixture against New Zealand, giving both players some crucial red-ball game time prior to the India vs New Zealand Test series.
Bumrah’s last Test match was in November 2025. He missed August’s Test tour of Sri Lanka. Bumrah has endured a couple of injuries since the IPL and also hasn’t been at his best in white-ball cricket in this period.
His last professional outing was in the Asian Games final on October 3 in Japan. He was rested from the home ODI series against the West Indies and both the T20I and ODI series in New Zealand.
Bumrah had spent the last couple of weeks at his home in Ahmedabad training and relaxing before flying to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru to “fulfil the obligatory return-to-play conditions for all players ahead of any series.”
Pant could also play alongside Bumrah, as well as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jurel, and KL Rahul among others, in the 3rd India A vs New Zealand A red-ball match, but his participation is subject to fitness clearance.
The wicket-keeper sustained a side strain in the Irani Cup at the beginning of this month, which ruled him out of Delhi’s Ranji Trophy opening game and the first two matches against New Zealand A.
Pant reached the CoE last week and has started light training, including batting drills, but hasn’t done wicket-keeping so far. Jharkhand’s Kumar Kushagra was added to the India A squad in Pant’s absence for the first two games, with Jurel donning the gloves.
