The BCCI has finalized the identity of the new fielding coach for the men’s Indian cricket team as a replacement for T Dilip, adding a new member to Gautam Gambhir’s contingent.
The fielding coach’s post was left vacant by the departure of Dilip, whose contract was not renewed by the BCCI.
Dilip joined the Indian team in 2021, replacing R Sridhar. He was the only member of Rahul Dravid’s coaching staff who continued with the team when Gambhir took over as the head coach in 2024.
Last year in May, Dilip’s contract was extended by a year, but there has been no extension this year. It is widely believed that Team India’s disappointing performance in the field on the UK trip, where the fielders dropped several catches, is the chief reason for the BCCI not continuing with Dilip.
Dilip’s departure came soon after the exit of assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, who now rejoins Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL. Last year, Abhishek Nayar, who was also an assistant coach brought in by Gambhir, was sacked after India’s Test series defeats against New Zealand at home and Australia away.
Who Is The New India Fielding Coach?
Assam’s Subhadeep Ghosh has been roped in as the new India fielding coach, replacing T Dilip. Subhadeep played 17 first-class matches and as many List-A games for Assam and Railways between 1994/95 and 2005.
He has worked in coaching roles at the top level. Subhadeep’s experience as a coach includes stints with the Assam senior men’s team; the India women’s senior team for two years; he was a support staff member during the Women’s ODI World Cup 2022 and the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023; in the last few years, Subhadeep has worked with the India A team, KKR and DC franchises and served at the NCA in Bengaluru.
The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) confirmed Ghosh’s appointment:

Ghosh, whose nickname is ‘Joy,’ will begin his tenure as the India fielding coach with the upcoming two-match Test series in Sri Lanka.
