BCCI To Cover All Expenses For Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Parents For UK Tour

The BCCI has decided to allow Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s parents for the upcoming tour of the UK, and the board will also cover expenses for them.

Earlier, the 15-year-old Sooryavanshi had received his maiden call-up to the Indian senior team for the T20I series in Ireland and England in the coming weeks.

This India call-up for the teenager came on the back of a historic IPL season, where, among the many records that he shattered, he broke Chris Gayle’s record for the most sixes in a single IPL season.

In IPL 2026, Sooryavanshi plundered 776 runs at a strike rate of 237, raising one century and five half-centuries. His blockbuster season also included three scores in the 90s, two of which came in the playoffs – 97 vs SRH in the Eliminator and 96 vs GT in the Qualifier 2. His dominating show with the bat earned him the Orange Cap, Man of the Tournament award, and the Emerging Player award.

India are scheduled to play Ireland in a two-match T20I series in Belfast on June 26 and 28 before taking on England in a five-match T20I series from July 1.

Sooryavanshi is part of the squad for both these T20I rubbers, although it remains unclear how India could fit him in the XI given Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma are expected to be the first-choice openers.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia explains decision to allow Vaibhav Sooryavanshi‘s parents on UK tour

The BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia recently confirmed that Sooryavanshi’s parents can accompany him on his maiden tour with the Indian senior team to Ireland and England to “make him comfortable” and aid him in an “adult environment” of the India squad.

Speaking with the news agency PTI, the BCCI secretary said,

“You see, not all national teams at the senior level have a 14 or 15-year-old in their squad. After many decades, we have someone like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

“At one point in time, it was Sachin Tendulkar who made it to the national team at such a young age. When such a young kid is part of the senior team, there are obviously a lot of issues that can crop up.

“Therefore, to make him comfortable and help him get used to an adult environment, where all the other players are above 18 years of age, and the team management members are also adults, we felt it would be helpful. We are doing this because we believe it will ease a lot of issues as far as Vaibhav is concerned.”

Sooryavanshi recently was in the news following an ugly spat that involved physical contact with Vishen Halambage during the India A vs Sri Lanka A match in Dambulla.

Saikia said he wouldn’t want to interrupt in the “domain of match referee” if any sanctions are to be handed on the youngster.

“The BCCI is not an authority, we should not intrude into the area where the match referee and the umpires are the main persons who can take any decision regarding any incident that had happened in the playground,” the BCCI secretary.

India A have reached the final of the tri-series that also involved Afghanistan A. The final is slated for June 21 in Dambulla.
