Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has showered praise on the Punjab Kings after their mammoth chase of 265 against the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 25.
In pursuit of the highest chase in T20 history, the Kings got off to a blistering start, with openers Pfrabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya stitching a 42-ball 126-run stand, which set the platform early for the Kings. Priyansh scored 43 off 17 balls, while Prabhsimran Singh top-scored with 76 off just 26 balls. Chopra praised the two openers for setting the platform for the innings.
“Punjab, what a team. Prabhsimran Singh hit six fours in an over. A six was hit off the first and last ball of the first over. They reached 50 in 2.5 overs. They are an unbelievable team. They are setting such standards that you say, take a bow. They are head and shoulders above the rest,” he said on his YouTube channel.
Skipper Shreyas Iyer scored an unbeaten 71 off 36 balls to take his team home with six wickets in hand and seven balls to spare. The win means the Punjab Kings are yet to be beaten in IPL 2026. Chopra praised the continuity and balance of the team, along with pointing out the skipper’s knock in the end.
“I know a lot of people will say you don’t lift the trophy by remaining undefeated in the league. However, what we are seeing is unprecedented. They have become the first team in the 19-year history not to make a change in the first seven matches, and therefore the success. Shreyas Iyer once again played an excellent knock in the end and finished the game. They were absolutely mindboggling,” Chopra added.
The Delhi Capitals were beaten despite KL Rahul’s masterful unbeaten 152 off just 67 balls. His innings took the Capitals to a mammoth 264/2, as he stitched a 220-run stand with Nitish Rana, who scored 91 off 44 balls.
