Singh made his first-class debut for Baroda cricket team in 2006 at age 14 and was part of the Mumbai Indians squad in 2008. He had a standout performance in the 2014–15 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, taking 6 wickets for 19 runs in four overs against Saurashtra cricket team.

Swapnil Singh almost gave up on cricket but made a big comeback with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. He picked six wickets in six matches, sometimes taking key wickets in his first over, showing his impact.
